Crushed Olive

February 8, 2011

Today I didn’t have to wake up to an alarm.

It was fabulous.

I drove up to the lake to my Aunt’s house.  We ate some lunch and went off on a little trip.

We made our way down to downtown Hickory here in NC.

In the downtown area, they had benches all over that were hand painted.

Funny dogs.

And a random Marilyn Monroe bench.

Pretty good paintings though!  I wish I could paint well.

We went to this store that had kid’s toys, clothes, kitchen chatchkies, etc.

On the walls going downstairs were more cool paintings!!

They had lots of cute stuffed animals that were so soft, they should be illegal.

The real reason we went to Hickory was to check out this oil and vinegar place called the Crushed Olive.

Full of cute decor inside.

In addition to oil and vinegars, they sell a bunch of dried pastas!

All of the oils and vinegars are stored in this little vats.

These are the bottles they fill up with an oil and vinegar of your choice.

They supplied plenty of fresh bread to taste with!

My three favorites:

Greek olive oil.

Walnut oil.

Fig Balsamic Vinegar.

Apparently if you spend over $25 you get a free small sample bottle of an oil and vinegar of your choice.  I chose a pear pomegranate vinegar.

For dinner, my Aunt cooked her first braised lamb shanks!!

Served with polenta and spinach.

Not bad for her first time!!

Now we’re watching reruns of House.

Have I mentioned a plumber has been at my apartment today?

Yea, plumbing is definitely not fixed….

Have I ever mentioned how much I HATE renting??
