Killing Time

February 17, 2011

I was out of the apartment all day today.  I went anywhere and everywhere to kill time.  The question isn’t what did I do, it’s what didn’t I do?!

I went to Starbucks, Ikea, Target, Barnes & Noble, Crate & Barrel, Homegoods and Earthfare.

I stopped at Earthfare for some yummy salad bar for lunch.  I always load these things so full, it ends up being so much.

I think there was a spinach salad with nuts and cranberries, quinoa, salmon salad, cucumber salad, stuffed grape leaves. Maybe more, but who knows.

I picked up a few buys while I was out.

Like a new cookbook!

I love Heidi Swanson’s blog 101 Cookbooks, so this was a must.  She’s got a new cookbook coming out in April [I think] too!

Target was having a killer movie sale!

I got Inception [Love me some Leo], The Proposal [Helloo Ryan Reynolds] and The Town [I heard this one was really good].

I’m a movie hoarder.  Don’t judge.

Ok so kitchen update…

The kitchen is still not done yet. The major things are done, it’s just the little touches that need to be finished [knobs, handles, etc.].  So I didn’t load anything back in the cabinets yet until everything is final [which is killing me by the way].

So I took a few pictures to give you an idea of what’s been going on here.

This is a messy before picture of the kitchen.  Keep in mind this is an older apartment.

Yikes.

Ok some of the after shots.

**Note…Only the bottom cabinets, counter, and sink were done.  I’m hoping the rest will be done at a later date.

Yes my stove and floor are ancient.  They are also on the list to get replaced.  Baby steps my friends, baby steps.

The new and improved kitchen sink.

If you couldn’t tell from the before picture, my sink used to be a horrible white ceramic one.  So yeah, I was more than excited for that upgrade!! 🙂

Before I didn’t have a corner cabinet.

Now I do!!! Complete with a lazy susan!! Cool!!!!

I’ve never had one of these before!!  I don’t know what to put in it!  Appliances or bulk food? Or something different??  Anyone have any suggestions??

I had horrible fake wood looking counters.  Now I have these.

Still fake, but SO much better.

Dinner was leftovers because I still am unable to cook anything with everything in shambles.

I heated up the pizza from the other day and added a fried egg on it!

I’m obsessed with fried eggs.

I have work super early tomorrow, so I’m hoping to get some shut eye tonight.

I’m currently watching The Proposal and it’s hilarious!! Love it!

New Grey’s Anatomy tonight too!

Crap, I’m not getting any sleep tonight.

Good night!!

Vanessa 🙂

Looking good…I’m sure you’ll be so happy and relieved to have the kitchen working again. I too hate clutter.

I put plastic/glass containers in my lazy susan, which I actually don’t think is the best way to utilize it (haha!), I love the idea of putting things in bulk in there with mason jars.

Also–the Town was a really good movie, so nice choice! 🙂

I started putting tupperware on the top shelf and I’m not sure I love it. I love mason jars! I may have to make that one happen!! I haven’t watched it yet! I’ve been working too much!!

Just in case you’ve not completed loaded up you’re lazy susan- my mom keeps her bulk items on the bottom shelf. The top shelf is for all of her spices. She has a ton of them.

I am still trying out different things and seeing what works best, it’s a process!! I think I agree with your mom and like having bulk items in there!! Thanks for the suggestions! 🙂
