Thirteen Hours

March 4, 2011

Breakfast was a random mix of things this morning.  I had coffee, a donut muffin and a huge pile of clementines.

I’ve really lost my thrill over making breakfast lately. I need to get back on that bandwagon ASAP.

This week at work is the CIAA tournament here in Charlotte.  Work is always super busy the week the tournament is in town.  Everybody wants to come to the games and everybody wants to eat!!

I was in charge of some food for a smaller party of around 50 today.  I had fun with it.

I made little caprese skewers.

Sweet grape tomatoes, aromatic basil leaves and cilingine mozzarella.

All I did was drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle some salt and black pepper for service.

I made a few cheese plates.  I stuck with my usual presentation style for this.

It consisted of five different cheeses: smoked cheddar, smoked gouda, mild cheddar, brie, swiss.

Probably one of my favorite things I made today was some grilled vegetable gazpacho!  So good that I had a bowl of it for lunch.

I put a bunch of stuff in the mix but mainly, grilled vegetables [yellow squash, zucchini, red onion, tomato, bell peppers], fresh herbs, tomato juice, ketchup, hot sauce, etc.

A slice of grilled bread seemed like the perfect accompaniment.  Mmh.

We wrapped some garlic cheesey breadsticks with prosciutto that was shaved ever so thin. Perfect.

These were SO addicting. I blame the prosciutto.

So back to the gazpacho.

I made it in the first place to go with some grilled shrimp to be served as a “shrimp cocktail/shooter”.

We served them in tiny martini glasses.

I wish I had a picture of them all line up together.  They looked so pretty.

This was a first for me.  At the end of the party, we were wrapping everything up and cleaning the tables when the FOH [front of the house] supervisor gave us these gift bags.

Apparently the client [the company who threw the party] gave the FOH and BOH some gift bags to say “thank you.”

I’ve never had someone do that!! Usually they just say thank you, compliment the food, yadda yadda yadda.

It was full of little knick knacks like, a coozie, to go coffee thermos, keychain, bouncy balls, highlighter/pen, and I think that’s it.  Not that I need another coozie or thermos, but hey it was free and thoughtful. I’ll take it.  Thanks Best Buy people 🙂

My 13 hour shift ended and when I came home, this was waiting on my doorstep.

Guess the UPS man finally got the picture that my apartment DOES exist.

Stay tuned until tomorrow to see what is inside 🙂

As for tomorrow, I have the day off.  I plan on making it productive as possible.  I need to pick up a couple things at Earthfare and I am hoping tomorrow will be the final day for project kitchen makeover!  Fingers crossed!

Are you doing anything fun tomorrow??

Vanessa 🙂
