Food Truck Hopping
Yesterday turned out to be a perfect night for spending it outside!
The skies were blue. The air was great. The temperature was comfortable.
For what you ask?
The first Chow Down Uptown Charlotte Food Truck Rally!!
Being from New Jersey, I’ve always been a huge fan of food trucks. They are everywhere in the New York/New Jersey area, especially outside colleges.
I always thought it would be so fun to have a food truck. I almost bit the bullet and started one once, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
Anyways, once I met up with Brooke and Julie we hit up our first food stop, Harvest Moon Grille!
I’ve eaten at their restaurant before and I really loved it, so I was excited for this food truck!
I ended up getting the Bahn Mi Taco!
It was their pork loin, belly and ham marinated and topped with a Sriracha sauce and carrot slaw.
Mmmh.. this was so good!
Both Julie and I got it and both had the same reaction. Good choice.
It also made for a fabulous photograph I thought and is now making me hungry as I write this.
If only they could deliver.
They also offered a Mini Quinoa Cake.
I believe this had quinoa and sweet potato in it and was topped with an asparagus puree and yogurt sauce.
Brooke and Julie got the cake and said it was pretty good.
Next we moved onto Roots food truck.
As you can see they had already sold out of the spring rolls! Darn!!
Yay for good, local food!!
Julie ended up getting the Rillettes en Croute, which pretty much means fried cured meat.
They were topped with a hoisin vinaigrette.
She ended up sharing a couple and I thought they were pretty tasty.
We both agreed that they could have used a little more of the vinaigrette though!
Then we waited in the longest line ever to get a fried deviled egg and blackened fish taco.
Yea, that never happened. They were sold out!!!
We were all pretty bummed about that one.
So we went to plan b and went to Southern Cake Queen to get a cupcake.
But then that ended up being sold out!!
This was NOT okay! We specifically wanted to try their “Willow” cupcake that was inspired by one of Julie’s fabulous cupcakes.
We learned our lesson. Next time we are hitting up the cupcake truck first!!
So after having not one but two food truck failures, we turned to Napolitano’s for something to indulge in.
As soon as I spotted these little guys, I knew that I was getting them.
I mean really, what else do you want more than some fried dough rolled around in powdered sugar to make you feel better??
It was kind of funny when we started to photograph the zeppolies, we all kind of referenced back to Taylor’s photographs of some deep fried cookie dough.
All we wanted was to create a photograph that looked as good as his.
After attempting around 20 shots, I gave up and just ate them all.
We ended up running into a few other bloggers and chatted up a bit. Then we went our separate ways until the next time we meet up.
Word on the street is that they might be having this food truck rally every Thursday. I think that would be an amazing idea and I would definitely come again!!
Note to the food trucks though, bring more food!!! Or have someone shuttle you some over.
I think the crowds that show up to the rally will continue to grow, so I hope they are prepared!
I feel so lucky to be able to connect with such an awesome group of people and bloggers!
The next meeting is on Sunday and I am SO bummed that I can’t go. I’m working Nascar this weekend and next, so I’m a busy, busy bee.
Well I’m off to bed! I have to be at work at 6am tomorrow. Yikes!
